The Business Unit Customs Brokerage Manager will lead the Import Brokerage Department in all operational disciplines involving the entry and clearance of imported goods, making sure there is operational excellence, high productivity, and customer satisfaction while ensuring compliance with CBP (U.S. Customs and Border Protection) and related Government Agency regulatory requirements. 

Functional requirements

  • Customs Broker License is a required
  • Extensive knowledge of “Customs business” and technical familiarity with CBP and OGA regulatory requirements
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Import Process and working environment, including the related systems/applications (ABI, ACS, ACE, Panalpina’s Import System)
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on various CBP Compliance topics to local Management, staff, and external customers

Management Skills

  • People Management and Leadership, i.e. Recruitment, Selection, Training & Development, Coaching, Performance Management
  • Organizational and Planning Skills (prioritize, plan, assign and control)
  • Decision-making capabilities

Work experience

  • Management experience: minimum 4 years
  • Language skills: fluent in English, second language a plus

Job Description:

C.H. Robinson's Global Freight Forwarding team provides logistics services to businesses, moving all types of freight globally. As a LICENSED Customs Broker you will be responsible for the handling of freight forwarding services, clearing customs freight as it enters the USA via ocean and air.  You will be part of a high volume office, requiring the ideal candidate to multi-task and be a team player.  You will be writing entries, working with tariffs and other international documentation.  At times you may be required to accompany an Account Manager or Sales Representative on sales calls with new and/or existing customers.

 Responsibilities 
 - Ensure the customs activities carried out within the branch are compliant with all applicable government regulations, responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Identifying and gathering required commercial data, documents, and/or rulings.
- Determining and/or verifying harmonized tariff classifications and valuation using reasonable care.
- Organizing and preparing data, documents, or rulings for timely entry.
- Manage accurate and timely ACH statement, duty payments.
- Maintain customer bond and power of attorney records.
- Resolve any rejected entries or census warnings.
- Supervise any post entry amendments.
- Maintain import client files.
- Maintain employee lists.
- Submit annual permit user fees and status reports.
- Contact with surety agents.
- Serve as the primary customs resource for branch staff, customers, or prospects.
- Maintain working knowledge of both current and pending customs and other agency regulations and policies.
- Alert and work closely with branch staff, customers, or prospects on new compliance or regulatory issues.
- Facilitate new business acquisition and account development related to full range of customs services.
- Develop and maintain reporting pertaining to entry productivity and performance.
- Work with import, operations, and branch leadership with the ultimate goal of improving operational synergies and expanding the branch’s revenue from customs services.
